How to Remove a SharePoint Site from File Explorer

SharePoint is a powerful collaboration platform that allows teams to share, manage, and work on documents and other files together. However, there may be instances where you need to remove a SharePoint site from your File Explorer to declutter your workspace or to prevent accidental access to sensitive information. In this article, we will guide you through the steps on how to remove a SharePoint site from File Explorer on Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Step 1: Open File Explorer

The first step is to open File Explorer. You can do this by clicking on the File Explorer icon on your taskbar, or by pressing the Windows key + E on your keyboard.

Step 2: Navigate to the SharePoint Site

Once File Explorer is open, navigate to the SharePoint site you want to remove. You can do this by clicking on the SharePoint site link in the left-hand navigation pane.

Step 3: Right-click on the SharePoint Site

After navigating to the SharePoint site, right-click on the site link. A context menu will appear with several options.

Step 4: Select “Properties”

In the context menu, select “Properties.” This will open a new dialog box with various tabs, such as General, Security, and Customize.

Step 5: Click on the “Advanced” Tab

Switch to the “Advanced” tab in the Properties dialog box. Here, you will find the “Remove from this list” option.

Step 6: Click “Remove from this list”

Click on the “Remove from this list” button. A confirmation dialog box will appear, asking you to confirm your decision. Click “Yes” to remove the SharePoint site from File Explorer.

Step 7: Close the Properties Dialog Box

After confirming the removal, close the Properties dialog box by clicking on the “OK” button.

Step 8: Restart File Explorer

Finally, restart File Explorer to ensure that the changes take effect. You can do this by closing all File Explorer windows and then opening them again, or by pressing the Windows key + E to open a new File Explorer window.

By following these steps, you can successfully remove a SharePoint site from File Explorer on Windows 10 and Windows 11. This will help you maintain a clean and organized workspace, while also ensuring that sensitive information is not easily accessible.
